Timothy Wades in to Save Staithes Beach
Friday, February 15 2008
Timothy met Steve Reynolds, Principal Environmental Health Officer at Scarborough Borough Council, on Friday 15th February 2008 to discuss ongoing water standard problems in Staithes. Staithes is the only beach in England to have failed Bathing Water Standards, despite Yorkshire Water putting in new sewage treatment facilities.
Timothy suggested a number of technical alterations that could help reduce water contamination and is committed with Mr Reynolds to finding solutions which would result in a positive outcome. Timothy also discussed water drainage problems in Filey following problems that arose during the floods last year. Timothy will raise this issue again when he meets Tony Harrington, Environmental Director at Yorkshire Water in Brussels next week.
He said;
"Our region has seen a number of water based problems over the last year. We have suffered severe flooding, have an ongoing water standard problem in Staithes and are facing further drainage problems in Filey. I want to ensure that these three areas are addressed by the correct departments and that action and solutions are forthcoming."
