National Legal Implications of Lisbon Treaty
After the so called 'Period of Reflection' we are currently scrutinising the NEW Treaty - the Lisbon Treaty. But the supposedly new Treaty is in fact the same old Constitutional Treaty and if so where is our promised referendum?
Europe needs to radically reform its economic and social models to meet, for example, the challenges of globalisation and the rise of India and China. If Europe is to compete in the face of these emerging competitive economies, it must deregulate, make its labour markets more flexible and reform welfare. Europe has to operate more effectively in the fight against global poverty. It must not only talk about combating climate change. It must be prepared to act on carbon emissions in a sustained and forceful way - setting a lead for others to follow.
